About the artist

Laurens Spier grew up in a bronze foundry.

Surrounded by craftsmanship from an early age, he developed a deep appreciation for the process of making. Today, he works alongside his father and brother, building on a family tradition shaped by decades of experience. The foundry is more than a workplace; it is his studio, his source of inspiration and the foundation from which every sculpture begins.

Working primarily in bronze, Laurens combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary materials and techniques. Precious metals, pigments, patinas and gemstones are carefully selected to strengthen the character and story of each piece.

Inspiration can be found everywhere  in nature, movement, design, human connection and the endless variety of forms that surround us. While birds have long played an important role in his work, they are only one chapter of a broader creative journey. Laurens does not define himself by a single subject or style. Curiosity drives his process, allowing new ideas, materials and forms to emerge naturally over time.

He sees life as a continuous journey of growth and transformation. Experiences are gathered, lessons are carried forward and perspectives evolve. This process not only shapes who he is as a person, but also influences the direction of his work. Each sculpture reflects a moment within that journey, balancing strength and vulnerability, familiarity and discovery.

His work explores the relationship between realism and imagination, movement and stillness, tradition and innovation. Through sculpture, Laurens seeks to create meaningful works that connect with people, spark emotion and remain relevant long after they are created.
